1st WIN Gatchalian Fun Fishing Tournament at Kap. Larry's Pond

To promote greater awareness and interest in caring for the environment, the City Government of Valenzuela launched yesterday (April 20, 2008), the 1st Mayor WIN Gatchalian Fun Fishing Tournament, held at Barangay Coloong, this City.

Approximately 150 fishing enthusiasts from all over the Metro, some coming from as far as Binan, Laguna, participated in the event, aimed at promoting the fishponds in Valenzuela as a prime sport fishing destination.

According to Mayor Gatchalian, Practically the whole of District 1 of Valenzuela are fishponds. Our City was, and still is, known as an aquaculture center. Milkfish and tilapia are just some of our biggest produce. Our fishpond operators have also introduced other varieties of fish such as apahap (barramundi) and biya.

Through the tournament, the City Government hopes to promote tourism in the City. Fishing is a great way to enjoy the beauty of nature and to spend quality bonding time with the family, Gatchalian says further.
